Craniometer-App

Instructions for use

1) Allow the installation from unknown sources in the security settings of your mobile device and  install the app_debug.apk-file

2) Place the CranioMAPP-Icon on your desktop and start the software

3) Click Next on the starting-screen, read and accept the initial Disclaimer

4) Fill in name, age and gender of the examinee

5) Select your reference object (you can define an own reference object here) After you clicked Next on this screen, you will see the default photograph of a childs head with a 2  Euro-coin reference object. Choose New photograph in the upper right corner.

6) Place your own reference object on the vertex of the childs head. Try to put it as good as you can in the middle of the head. If the child has a lot of hair, put a thin stocking, bathing cap or another tight cap on the head so you can see the outline of the head from the above view. You can stick the reference object on the cap to secure it. Take a Photograph as strictly as possible from the vertex /cranial view. If possible, make sure that the nose and both ears can be seen on the photograph. You might mark the position of the ears with a finger (of an assistency).

7) Place the first two marks on exact opposite sites of the reference object.

8) Place the marks on the right and left ear. Mark the position of the nose and of the most dorsal point of the occiput / back of the head. You might want to position the occiput mark a little bit right or left of the proposed blue line.

9) The next marking spots will outline the head shape. The magnifier in the upper corner will help you to position your marks around the outlining border of the head.

10) After you placed your marks, you will be asked to fill in your own measurements. Please provide the measurements taken by your standard procedure (laserscanner, 3D-photograph, caliper measurements, or other). Fill in the values for Diagonal A and B at 30 degree, 40 degree or 50 degree - depending on where you take your own measurements.

11) If you agree to help in improving the App (what we hope and would be most grateful for), click on agree and chose the E-Mail-Providing tool to send your personal measurement-data and the measurement-data by the App anonymously to Giessen University for the purpose of  Validation. Data will be delivered anonymously and will be deleted after validation.

12) Afterwards you will find the anthropometric evaluation of head shape with circumference, length, width, transcranial diagonals A und B, CVA (Diagonal B-A), CVAI ((CVA / Diagonal A) x 100), CI (width / length) and Diag_Ratio (Diag A / Diag B) for the examined child. Clicking the little i will show you the position of the individual measurement parameter in comparison with normative data as defined in

[Normal Head Shape Parameters in the First 2 Years of Life . Wilbrand JF, Kaps K, Tabak D, Bierther U, Wilbrand M, Neubauer BA, Pons-Kuehnemann J, Howaldt HP, Hahn A. Neuropediatrics. 2017 Dec;48(6):432-441.]

13) We ask you to use the send feedback-function diligently. Thank you for trying out the Craniometer-App and helping us to validate the Software.
